Observations
On
October 23, 2000 "Beaver" was found in the morning
in the neighbors
pasture. He had stepped over the field fence and ran through
the barbed wire
fence of the neighbors. A 10-12 inch long and 8-10 inch wide
laceration was
on the left neck just cranial to the shoulder and at the most
ventral
portion.
The Cleidomastoideus and Omotranversarius muscles were
transected.
The jugular vein was exposed and the carotid artery and trachea
could be
palpated within the cavity that was created.
Initially,
"Beaver' was placed on intravenous antibiotics and NSAIDS
for 3
days and the wound was cleaned with betadine solution.
A call was made to EquiPet for samples to use on this case in
order to enter into the contest.
The Derma Gel arrived and treatment began on November 4, 2000.
All oral antibiotics and topical antibacterial treatements were
discontinued.
Thehealing of the wound appeared to accelerate after the use
of Derma Gel
andgave the wound a better granulation bed to heal.
