Dog Attack
2 Ewes Dead, 3 Ewes with Serious Wounds.
Date Notes
8/22/00 Wound Swollen, Flesh Puffy and Rough
8/24/00
Dark Spots starting to appear.
8/27/00
Appears to be Proud Flesh. Flies are becoming a serious problem.
Fly sprays and traps not working. Maggots developed during the
day from AM to PM. Disinfect with peroxide and water. Removed
all debris as well as could. Had bottle of Derma Gel. Coated
the area with a thick covering. This seems to help with fly
control around wound. Elbow joint is still visible.
9/6/00
Black spots on wound starting to disappear. Granulation of flesh
looks much better. Front edge of wound has sealed real well.
The back side has a large space under the skin - not sealing.
Use Q-Tips to clean and to work Derma Gel in under this flap.
The elbow joint is starting to seal and fill in.
9/11/00
Blood looks like it is trying to come to the surface. Cleaned
with warm water and a disinfectant. Covered with Derma Gel.
Q-Tips come away from wound blood soaked.
9/12/00
Skin very rough. Wants and looks like it is starting to scab
over. Cleaned with warm water and a disinfectant. Covered with
Derma Gel. Q-Tips come away from wound blood soaked.
9/16/00
Approximately 2/3 of wound has sealed down and knitted to
flesh. Lower back edge has broken open and is draining. Elbow
joint is sealing and almost filled in. Granulation of wound
appears to be near completion.
9/18/00
After clean-up, flesh has a nice color to it. Seems to be smoothing
out. Has filled in nicely.
9/23/00
Must be itching as she appears to be rubbing wound and roughing
it up some.
10/1/00
Has sealed down but back edge still a little rough. It keeps
drawing down. Can really see the skin drawn inwards. The elbow
joint is completely sealed.
10/8/00
Looks rough. Blood comes to the surface. Still believe she is
trying to rub. Cleans up real nice at this point in time. It
still amazes us that she has survived.
10/14/00
We never thought we would see a wound of this magnitude seal
like this one has and we never thought this ewe would be alive
today! They usually succumb to the shock and stress of the attack.
THANKS
to the DERMA GEL PEOPLE.
We really think this product has a place in the wound management
field.
