IV a Acceleration of the healing process.
The
rate of healing is another concern with the conventional method.
Wounds treated with hydrocolloids heal faster than wounds treated
with the conventional method.1,3,4,6,7,13
Nemeth et al 15 found that moist environment dressings on skin biopsy
sites healed wounds three times faster than those treated with the
conventional method. Hydrocolloid dressings help heal wounds faster
for a variety of reasons:
The
area under these dressings are moist and allow free gaseous permeability
Semi-occlusive
properties avoid drying out - which decreases cell viability - and
stimulate capillary proliferation from the wound edge to the center
Macrophages
are stimulated by these local conditions, and release growth factors
that increase the rate of angiogenesis 4,11
This
stimulates fibroblast function, which helps increase the healing
rate. 8,11 |
