V – Pain and patient acceptance
  An important difference between the conventional method and hydrogel dressings is the perceived pain from the wound.
Hydrogel dressings protect nerve endings from the environment and keep them moist - literally bathed in a moist soothing environment -, helping to reduce pain.
With gauze dressings, nerves may be damaged during changes; however, hydrogel dressings do not damage the underlying new surface when removed.
Nemeth et al 15 and others 5-7,13 have demonstrated that subjects treated with hydrogel dressings had less pain than those treated with gauze and/or topical ointments, creams. ..
